Until further notice, we are unable to provide services to Community Borrowers.

Community Borrowers

Community Borrowers:

  • Individuals who are not affiliated with the College may use the Library’s resources in-house, but may not borrow materials unless they have obtained an NLC Library Community Borrower Card.

Community Borrowers Cards:

  • Community Borrower cards are available for free at any NLC Library. 
  • Photo-ID, and valid name and address identification are required to obtain a Library card.
  • Minors (under 18 years old), may apply for a card with a signed parental/guardian form, available at the Library.

Community Card holders may:

  • Borrow circulating library books and periodicals (excluding reserves and short-loan items). 
  • Use the Library computers, including accompanying printers, except when student demand is high.
  • Use the Library computers for a maximum of one hour per day.
  • Access library databases, eBooks and streaming videos on campus.

Community Borrowers are not eligible:

  • To use Interlibrary Loan Services, unless willing to pay a fee for each item requested. 
  • To borrow DVDs or VHS films, due to licensing requirements.
  • To access library databases, eBooks and streaming videos off campus, as these are restricted to NLC students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

Community Card users are held accountable to the same borrower responsibilities and Code of Conduct as the students, faculty and staff of Northern Lights College.

Community members who fail to comply with library policies may have their library privileges revoked.

Responsibilities

  • All borrowers are responsible for maintaining a current telephone, email and local mailing address for correspondence.
  • Borrowers are responsible for returning or renewing materials by the date indicated on the date due slip.
  • When materials are recalled, borrowers must return the materials by the date on the recall notice.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the loss or damage of all materials borrowed on their library card.
  • All materials are subject to recall after two weeks.
  • Library patrons who do not return materials promptly will be assessed a fine.
  • Library patrons who do not return an item, will be charged a replacement fee and a processing fee.
