BORROWING PRIVILEGES

Note: At this time, fines are only being applied to semester reserve materials. This information is subject to change.

Borrowing privileges are available for all Northern Lights College registered students, faculty and staff. There is no charge for Interlibrary Loans or article delivery.

In Dawson Creek, and Fort St. John, library users must present current identification to obtain a library card before using the library facilities or borrowing materials. In other localities, check with your local Campus library contact.

OVERDUES/FINES: Fines are charged, not as a source of revenue for the Library, but to ensure the equitable use of library materials by all borrowers.

Items which are not returned when they are due are subject to overdue fines.

  • An overdue notice is sent to the borrower when an item is 7 days overdue.
  • A second overdue notice with increasing fines is sent 2  weeks later if the item has not been renewed or returned..
  • A Final overdue notice is sent with increasing fines 3 weeks later if the item has not been renewed or returned.
  • If an item is not returned or renewed within 4 weeks of its due date, the borrower is billed for the replacement cost of the item and a $20 processing fee.
  • Borrowing privileges are blocked when fines reach $25.00 and may be restored only upon payment of the amount owing.
  • Student transcripts and the right to register for courses may be withheld until library records are cleared.
  • A repeated violation of the borrowing rules may lead to the permanent suspension of borrowing privileges.
  • When the item is returned, the invoice is cancelled and overdue fines are payable. Once an invoice is paid and an item reordered, no refunds will be issued.
